For
those who love to swim, snorkel, dive, boogie board, or surf, the
Hawaii Beaches, Surfrider, and Lilikoi vacation rentals offer outstanding
beach access to east Hawaii's best beaches. The Hilo bay, along
Hilo's Keaukaha shoreline, is laced with bays, inlets, lagoons,
and grassy beach parks with picnic tables, lifeguards, showers and
restrooms. Richardson and Leleiwi beaches are located adjacent to
each other, and are excellent for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.
The best surfing is beyond the enclosed cove at Richardson beach.
These Hawaii beaches are far less crowded than other Big Island
beaches, and offer great family fun all year round.
All
Hawaii vacation rentals at the swimming beaches are equipped with
boogie boards, limited snorkeling equipment, beach umbrellas and
cozy beach towels. Lifeguards are present at the Hawaii vacation
rentals at both Richardson's and Leleiwi beaches during the days.
Richardson
Beach is the last beach on the Hilo Bay. With a black sand
beach, accessing the water is easy. Richardson beach offers a
protected diving or snorkeling experience that is perfect for
beginners and kids. Water temperature is always comfortably warm
and refreshing. For the adventurous, swim beyond to a nice reef
and lots of fish and usually sea turtles too - be careful during
high surf conditions, and watch out for surfers! For folks who
prefer to stay out of the water, enjoy the ocean from the sandy
beach area or explore the lava rock tidepools to the far right
of the beach area. Lifeguard on duty everyday.

FRONT RICHARDSON BEACH
Leleiwi
Beach
is adjacent to Richardson Beach, a block back toward Hilo town.
A pavilion of covered picnic tables makes Leleiwi a perfect
place to picnic. Many guest carry the coolers across the road,
bringing lunch to the beach. Unlike Richardson's, Leleiwi does
not have a sandy beach or sand entrance. Watch your step on
the slippery lava rock, and be careful of the waves when entering
the water. Many guests wear rubber slippers. You may have to
time your entry to right after the wave hits the lava shoreline.
Once you enter the water, there is white sand along the ocean
floor. Snorkeling is best to the left and follow the reef. Sea
turtles are very common in this area. Most guests report seeing
at least a dozen turtles within the pond area. For
young kids and beginner swimmers, the enclosed cove offers protection
from the ocean waves. Lifeguard on duty daily.

FRONT LELEIWI BEACH
Onekahakaha
Beach is
known as the "children's beach." Protected, white-sand
beach makes this a favorite for families with very young children.
Large boulders block waves from the protected swimming area. For
older kids, this beach may quickly become "boring,"
but it is perfect for little ones. This beach is located next
to Leleiwi beach, and two beaches away from Richardson Beach.
Lifeguards are on duty year-round. The park has picnic pavilions,
rest rooms, and showers. Hawaii Beaches, Surfrider, and Lilikoi
houses are within close proximity the children's beach.
Ahalanui
Warm Pond is a three-acre beach park with a ½-acre pond heated
by a volcanic steam opened in 1993 to replace earlier beach parks
that were lost to lava flows. The pond here is good for swimming,
but the nearby ocean is rough. Pond
is volcanically fed from a spring at one end and the ocean at
the other. Pond temperatures vary but are often around 90. The
surrounding palm trees offer shade and great picnic opportunities.

CLOSE TO AHALANUI WARM POND
Hawaii
vacation rentals: Palms, Mangos, and Orchid are located along the
ocean in a quiet, residential, setting in a highly desirable oceanfront
neighborhood. Guests can hike along the Puna coastline, explore
tidepools, or fish off the cliff. The Palms and Mango houses are
absolutely oceanfront, with outstanding whitewater views. The Orchid
has a partial oceanview with coastal access. Richardson, Leleiwi,
and Onekahakaha swimming and snorkeling beaches are 25 minutes drive
from these Hawaii vacation rentals. The volcanically heated Ahalanui
warm pond swimming area is 15 minutes drive from these homes.
